Door Supervision Level 2 Award
Who is it for?

Under the Private Security Industry Authority Act 2001, all individuals wishing to work in the private security industry must undertake a recognised qualification before applying for a licence.

This means that any person wishing to work as a Door Supervisor, SIA event staff, Security Guard, Security Response Driver or even Retail Security will need to attend an approved course before being able to apply for an SIA licence.

Applicants will be asked for a number of things to support their application;
including supporting identification documents, proof of a successful pass of an approved course,fully completed application form and must be able to meet the required criteria of a Criminal Record check.

1 day - 10 hrs Tuition
40 minute / 25 Question Multiple Choice Exam

Unit 2 Working as a Door Supervisor
1 day - 10 hrs Tuition
1 hour / 40 Question Multiple Choice Exam

Unit 3 Conflict Management for the Private Security Industry
1 day - 10 hrs Tuition
40 minute / 25 Question Multiple Choice Exam

Unit 4 Physical Intervention Skills for the Private Security Industry
Practical Assessment
10 True / False Questions


Each module consists of a full days training, which will cover all the required aspects of the specific module, then at the end of each day the candidates must successfully complete an exam.

Conflict Manangement Level 2 Award
Who is it for?

The level 2 award in Conflict Management helps staff whose work involves the provision of services to the public to avoid and manage conflict in their work environment.

The award has been designed in conjunction with conflict management specialists in the licensed retail sector. Incidents of workplace violence can range from the relatively minor problems of people causing a nuisance in premises, for example through unacceptable levels of swearing, to serious incidents that may lead to physical abuse & damage to property.
The Level 2 Award in Conflict Management is designed for:

• Licensed Retailers
• Relief Managers
• Assistant Managers
• Supervisory / Key Staff

Working in areas including:
• Pubs, Bars, Nightclubs
• Hotels & Restaurants
• Entertainment Venues & Casinos
• Hotels
• Care Homes & Hostels •
Off licenses & Supermarkets

The Level 2 Award in Conflict Management is designed to enable candidates to understand:

• The responsibilities of both employers & employees in relation to workplace violence
under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974

• What is meant by the terms “risk” and “hazard” and the causes of workplace violence

• How to identify & reduce hazards through risk assessment to reduce the likelihood of conflict arising

• Why & how conflict situations canaries, and how to avoid them

• How to deal with conflict when it has arisen

• The law in relation to self defence

• Victim support, & the importance of reporting & recording incidents of workplace violence

Physical Intervention Level 2 Award
Who is it for?

Physical intervention skills may be needed in some workplaces to manage challenging behavior safely. Depending on the risks faced in the job this can involve anything from avoidance and disengagement skills through to rescue, escorting and holding skills.

This new training module is intended to provide our candidates with a wider range of non-violent options for dealing with the most common scenarios involving physical contact in the workplace.
It does not offer a technique to cover every possible situation but provides a solid foundation in terms of knowledge and skills to further reduce risk to the customers and staff.

This course is designed for those working in the roles where the need for further development in line with Conflict Management training is required. The skills are designed to be non pain compliant and not reliant on size, strength or gender. It is now mandatory for new Door Supervisors, and will be mandatory for those with existing licenses and as a condition of renewal, it is also recommended for Security Guards, Stewards, and those employed within the Security Industry.

HABC are the awarding body for the certificate and this will be accepted by the SIA when you licence requires renewal. The course covers all aspects relating to workplace violence leading to use of force and Physical Intervention skills.
Training Content:

To successfully achieve the award delegates will be required to:

• Understand physical interventions and the legal andprofessional implications of their use.

• Understand how to reduce the risk of harm when physical intervention skills are used.

• Be able to use non-pain related physical skills to protect yourself and others from assault.

• Be able to use non-pain related standing holding and escorting techniques,
including non-restrictive and restrictive skills.

• Understand good practice to follow after physical interventions.

Door Supervision Upskilling Qualification
 
In March 2012 the SIA announced the intention to require existing door supervisors who had achieved the pre-QCF Door Supervision qualification (for example the National Certificate for Door Supervision) to undertake additional training in order to renew their licence.
The new qualification comprises the following two mandatory units:

     •
Physical Intervention Skills for the Private Security Industry
Assessed by a practical test and a written True/False test which is set by HABC and marked by the tutor.

Safety Awareness for Door Supervisors
Assessed by a 10-question multiple-choice examination which is set by HABC and marked by the tutor.
The new Safety Awareness for Door Supervisors unit of assessment and workbook have been developed
to cover the following subjects within the security sector:

    •Counter Terrorism

    • First Aid Awareness

    • Dealing with Children and Young People
